Sometimes I strongly feel that the universe communicates with us through strangers.
Not always through our closest friends.
Not always through family.
Sometimes through someone we barely know.
At certain points in life, when we feel completely stuck, when we are standing in a place of confusion and emotional darkness, the universe quietly sends the right person to give us direction—or sometimes just a moment of relief.
There was a phase in my life when I was going through one of the darkest emotional dilemmas I had ever faced.
I was confused.
Completely stuck.
But the strange part was this: I didn’t want to tell anyone.
Not my close friends.
Not my mom.
Not my cousins.
Not because they wouldn’t care. But because I didn’t want them to know that I was struggling with such confusion in my life. Maybe it was ego. Maybe I was doubting my own decisions. Maybe I simply wasn’t ready for the people closest to me to see me in that vulnerable state.
But at the same time, carrying everything alone felt unbearably heavy.
Even though I spoke with AI tools like ChatGPT and wrote down my thoughts, at some point I realized something very human: I needed another human being to listen.
Not even a therapist.
Just… someone to listen.
So one day, I was scrolling through my phone contacts, thinking about who I could talk to. But every name that appeared made me hesitate. I didn’t want anyone to judge me. I didn’t want anyone to misunderstand me. I didn’t want anyone to think differently about me.
Then suddenly, a face came to my mind.
His name is Vishnu.
He is actually my schoolmate Kavya’s husband. But interestingly, among all of us who know Kavya, he has become something like a “universal brother.” The kind of person everyone feels comfortable with. If there is a function, a housewarming, or a birthday gathering, people often call him first and say, “Bring Kavya also.”
In a funny way, he became what we jokingly call a “national jiju,” like how people call Nick Jonas our national jiju after he married Priyanka Chopra.
But that day, I didn’t message him because of jokes or casual friendship.
I messaged him because I needed a brotherly ear.
I literally told him that:
“I don’t have a brother to tell this to, but I want a brother’s support right now.”
And he listened.
That’s all he did.
He didn’t judge me.
He didn’t interrogate me.
He didn’t ask unnecessary questions.
He didn’t try to give heavy advice.
He simply listened.
We spoke only for a few minutes.
But those few minutes meant more than he will probably ever realize.
Sometimes when we are drowning in our thoughts, what we need is not solutions. Not lectures. Not analysis.
Just a safe space where someone listens.
After that conversation, something inside me felt lighter.
Maybe he doesn’t even remember that conversation today.
Maybe he never realized how important that moment was for me.
But I remember.
And I am grateful.
Even today, whenever something good happens in my life—when a book is released, when something meaningful happens—I share the news with three people.
My mom.
My cousin.
And him.
Because sharing joy with someone who once silently held space for your pain creates a very special kind of bond.
We don’t always share our struggles with everyone.
But when we can genuinely share our happiness with someone, that connection becomes very real.
That is why I wanted to write this.
To save this moment.
Because sometimes the universe sends us exactly the right person—not forever, not dramatically, but just long enough to help us breathe again.
And for me, Vishnu was one of those people.
Sometimes the universe doesn’t send us answers. It simply sends us someone who listens.
