How often do you say “no” to things that would interfere with your goals?
Saying No… Without Guilt
If you ask me today—
How often do you say “no” to things that interfere with your goals or your peace?
These days…
I say it often.
If something is not aligned with me…
my goals…
my peace…
or the phase I’m in…
I say no.
And I say it without guilt.
And honestly?
It feels powerful.
Because this wasn’t always me.
Since childhood, I was scared to say no.
Somewhere, the family dynamics taught me—
Saying no is disrespectful.
Saying no is not right.
So I became someone who said yes… even when I didn’t want to.
And later?
I regretted it.
A lot.
Even in major life decisions…
I knew I had to say no.
But I couldn’t.
And I had to live with those choices.
I had to carry that weight.
But slowly…
Something started changing.
I began saying no.
Not all at once.
Not confidently in the beginning.
There were hesitations.
There was fear.
But step by step…
I learned.
And when I started saying no—
It felt like something shifted inside me.
I felt like…
I am holding the steering of my own life.
I am the one driving.
That feeling?
It is something else.
I started small.
Saying no to little things.
Even something as simple as—
a cup of coffee.
If I didn’t want it…
I said no.
And slowly I realised—
Saying no is not a small thing.
In some situations…
It is the biggest decision.
There was a time I believed—
A woman’s strength is the ability to say no… even when she wants to.
But now?
I call that out.
That’s not strength.
If you want something—
say yes.
If you don’t—
say no.
That clarity…
is the real strength.
And that clarity comes from awareness.
Knowing:
what you want what you don’t want what aligns with you what doesn’t
Another thing I stopped believing in—
“Maunam sammatam”
(Silence means agreement)
No.
Silence is not yes.
Silence is not consent.
Silence can mean:
confusion delay processing or even a no
If it is yes—
say yes.
If it is no—
say no.
That clarity matters.
And now…
I actually love saying no.
If something doesn’t feel right…
I say it.
Clearly.
Firmly.
Without over-explaining.
Even my close ones have noticed it.
Sometimes they even say—
“Saying no is her thing.”
And honestly…
I’m okay with that.
Because it took me years
to reach this place.
Years of:
hesitation regret learning unlearning
To finally say—
No… without guilt.
And for me?
That is a superpower.
