Oubaitori

How can a breeze feel so cooling
in the middle of May?

Is it the moist morning air,
or the beauty of spring?

How did the lane know
that I was coming today?

It arranged a flowery carpet for me—
my favourite pink bougainvillea.

That carpet reminded me
that I still love florals.

So I lay on it.

Surprisingly,
I loved that feeling of being welcomed.

Someone brushed my hair—
maybe Zephyr.

Bird chirps sounded like a melody.

When I looked above,
I saw the sun trying to kiss my eyes…
but something was blocking him.

The leaves
of the trees around me.

It felt like another universe—
a parallel plane above me.

Strangely,
it looked just like my lungs.

The leaves resembled alveoli.

Both were breathing—
the trees
and my lungs.

Through those breathing leaves,
I finally received
that glimpse of a kiss.

I closed my eyes,
felt it,
and thanked it.

Zephyr still brushed my hair
like a lover.

Is this what they call therapy?

How can I explain this feeling
to another distressed soul?

No words could justify this bliss…

And that is how
I reached my Oubaitori.
